The start of our new weather serie.

Cumulus Humilis clouds

Cumulus clouds mostly form as a result of localized pockets of warm air rising.

Cumulus humilis is the smallest form of cumulus clouds and results from relatively weak convection (humilis means humble in Latin). This produces clouds that generally have flat bases and small, rounded tops. Technically, a cumulus cloud is considered to be a humilis formation if it is wider than it is tall, as estimated by an observer on the ground. The height of these type of clouds is about 500 tot 1000 meter or 2000 to 3500 feet. It's unusual that rain falls out of these type of clouds.

Attention friends, we've got ourselves another one who'se taking our pictures, with a link to 500px, but not mentioning where it came from: www.flickr.com/photos/michaelhaupt/14632815455/in/photoli...:

Like little girls and butterflies, clouds don't need a reason. 'nuff said.

Flickr Lounge Sunday theme - What's your weather like?

Very mixed today with sun, clouds and some spots of rain.

Storm clouds approach.

Very unsettled weather here in the East of England just lately.

The moisture rises from the earth warmed by the recent sunshine.

Non sempre le nuvole offuscano il cielo: a volte lo illuminano.

As you can probably tell, I have been down to the Palouse a lot lately. I've been experiencing some pretty incredible weather. Here is one taken just before the sun set on the other side. I was hoping for a rainbow but the storm clouds lit up real nicely as the sun was going down. Thanks for looking! Chip

Standing somewhere under Cloud Gate, I took this shot looking up at the underside of the sculpture.

Always waiting for the sky, it's my main motive. Then I queried and I fill all the cards. Interesting days are about 4 times a year.

Всегда ждем небо, это мой главный мотив. В тот день я заполняю все карты. Интересные дни около 4 раз в год.

At the corner of my street going home after a dinner with music in the pubblic gardens.

This huge cloud had caught my eye on our trek to Reiek peak in Mizoram.

Reiek is a tourist spot some 29 kms from Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram. The peak has an altitude of around 5000 feet and commands magnificent views over the surrounding mountains and valleys and also of distant Aizawl.

Taken last evening just as the storm clouds were starting to move in. About an hour and a half later we were hunkered down in our basement waiting for a tornado producing storm to pass. No damage close by.

This is a sunset picture I took last November, where I fortunately was fast enough to get my camera since this spectacular view lasted only a minute or so. This is also the reason why the foreground in the original shot was pretty dark and hence I pushed the shadows as far as I could to make the meadow visible. Together with increasing the contrast a little to emphasize the nice shape and color of the clouds this introduced some additional noise, but I think it is worth sharing anyway. Hope you like it!
