Flickr is a group administrator Flickr says:

Welcome to the Flickr Monthly Challenge!
| GERMAN | ITALIAN | FRENCH | SPANISH | PORTUGUESE | INDONESIAN | VIETNAMESE | KOREAN | CHINESE |

Join us for a new theme every month, where photographers of all levels can submit their best shots and connect with the community!

How It Works:

A new challenge theme will be announced on the first (business) day of each month.
Submit up to five photos per month that fit the theme.
Tag your submissions with #FlickrPhotoChallenge and the challenge theme for eligibility.
Our Flickr Community Team and moderators will review submissions and select a winner each month that will be announced near the end of the month.

The winner receives a year of Flickr Pro and a print of their choice, plus a feature on Flickr’s socials!

FAQs

How do I add a photo to the group?

1. Join the group.
2. From your Photostream, go to the page of the photo you want to add.
3. Tag your photo using #FlickrPhotoChallenge and the month's theme.
Example: #FlickrPhotoChallenge #Macro
4. Below the image, click “Add to group.”
5. Select this group.
6. Select Done.

If you're looking for the steps specific to our mobile app, check out this article

How do I add a tag to a photo?

Click your photo to open it. Below the image, click 'Add tags'. Enter the relevant tag keyword, then press the Enter key. As long as the daily tags we mention in each post is included, the inclusion of a # symbol or not, will NOT affect the submission. So don't stress over that #

I changed my photo submissions. Can I submit new photos?

We know this can happen. You can remove your original submissions if needed and replace them with new selections. Please be mindful when doing this. Repeatedly adding and removing your image with the sole purpose of increasing views may get you banned.

If you're looking for the steps specific to our mobile app, check out this article

Where can I find my photos that I’ve submitted to the pool?

Use the following link: https://www.flickr.com/groups/flickrmonthlyphotochallenge/pool/me

What can I win?

The main goal of this challenge is to come together with the Flickr community, share, inspire and connect. But we do have some rewards planned for a little extra incentive.

Participants in the group will have a chance to be featured in Flickr galleries, highlighted on our social platforms and may be considered for a feature in our “Photo of the Day”.

The winner will win a year of Flickr Pro and a print of an image of their choice.

Are there any date requirements for photos added to this challenge?

Nope! Photos taken from anytime, new and old, can be used for the photo challenge.

More questions? Add them in the thread!

This is a terrific idea Flickr! Like many I enjoyed the 21st Birthday challenge very much. And whilst I'm sure you've got your plans in place for upcoming months, might I suggest a "suggestions" thread where members can pitch ideas for future challenges.

I've run into a problem. The photos I wish to share are on my group Flickr site and already tagged. The only option to change it is "edit tag" but when I try to put #FlickrPhotoChallenge (space)#UpCLoseand Macro only the first tag appears.
Any solution please? I'd really enjoy joining in!

Thanks Richard, but it doesn't work for me. I think the problem is that the photos I want to share are already tagged in another Flickr Group and I can't undo the tag...

Cecilia Prest:

It isn't that. If you are not generally familiar with using tags already then maybe have a study of this.

Edit: you can add as many tags as you like (up to 75 I believe), for as many groups as you like.

If you see at the bottom of group main page, you can observe only SAFE pics are allowed. So if your nude is marked as Restricted (as it should) you will not be able to upload here.

My photos aren't 1:1 magnification. They are taken with with a 0.5x magnification lens advertised as a macro lens (RF 35mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM). Are my photos still eligible?

tbh I dont really see much off-topic pictures this month. It is a pretty broad theme and Flickr tend to be generous and inclusive about eligibility for themes generally.
for the theme tag, those pictures that lack it when the judging happens wont be included. ...but people still have a couple of weeks to add in the tag to pictures already submitted for this month

One question: should the pictures be taken during the month, or can you use archive images as well?

According to your rules, I have to tag #BlackAndWhite (for October) to my photo when posting to the pool.

But I already got a tag which is BlackAndWhite (without the hashtag), I often use this tag for my black and white shots, been doing it for years.

When I tried to tag #BlackAndWhite, the software won't accept it, because for the software, it already got BlackAndWhite.

Is this going to be a problem? Like for example, my photo posted to the pool won't stand a chance of picked because it's missing the tag #BlackAndWhite, due to the fact that it got the BlackAndWhite tag?

Is it really needed to add the hashtag and the keyword?

Supposing you someone have a photo of a building, they tag it architecture, then for your monthly competition, you ask them to tag it #architecture, and they're unable to tag it #architecture because they already have architecture tag. Portrait v #Portrait, Seascape v #Seascape, etc.,

jacklowry47 - thanks for 1K followers:

i am sure it wont matter. #BlackAndWhite and BlackAndWhite behave exactly the same as tags during tag searches.

But if you really want to replace BlackAndWhite with #BlackAndWhite then just delete the tag BlackAndWhite from the photo, you will then be able to add the tag #BlackAndWhite and it will display with the hashtag

jacklowry47 - thanks for 1K followers:
me too like you I already have all my b&w photos tagged with an all lowercase no spaces "blackandwhite" tag that does not allow me to enter the official tag #BlackAndWhite. This is the way Flickr portal works.

But if you read the above sentence in the rules, you can understand (like I did) it's not important if # or spaces or capital letters are present or not.
Of course, YES, the tags must be present.

At least this is my interpretation, Flickr: can you confirm please?

"A new challenge theme will be announced on the first (business) day of each month."

Flickr are based in USA so that means Monday to Friday there (as Saturday and Sunday are not business days)

I expect the November topic will be announced tomorrow as that would be regarded the first business day of the month

look at the " Flickr Photo Challenge Group Highlights" gallery that they make for each month's winners and runners up. You can see that it features photos from many years ago as well as ones from recent years. So clearly the time taken is not an issue.
