The node_image module can be used to associate images (both full size and thumbnail versions) with a node or a taxonomy term so that the images can be included in the node body or (using taxonomy_context module) the taxonomy term display. The module had been updated for 4.6, but as the coding approaches are dated it won't be branched (so no 4.6 download will appear on drupal.org).
