Problem/Motivation

Recent discussion in the #diversity-inclusion channel led to a proposal that anti-oppression trainings become part of the Drupal community's culture -- perhaps even requiring that kind of training in order to hold a leadership position.

While I'm not sure the CWG is positioned to require that kind of training, this seems like a format similar to the Code of Conduct trainings supported by the CWG.

Proposed resolution

Find & vet a provider of anti-oppression trainings and then offer it to the community at large -- perhaps all leaders in the community can commit to taking the training even if it isn't required.

Thanks @gdemet!

I just added this to the agenda for this week's DDI meeting -- in case anyone is interested in chatting in real-time-ish.

Thanks for starting this conversation and taking suggestions!

Here is a list of trainers that was compiled by me and my colleagues in the white anti-racist affinity group at my workplace:

The Adaway Group https://adawaygroup.com/
Michelle Johnson https://www.michellecjohnson.com/
Manju Rajendran teamjusticefacilitation@gmail dot com
Fleur Larsen https://www.fleurlarsenfacilitation.com/
AORTA https://aorta.coop/
Race & Resilience https://www.raceandresilience.com/
Racial Equity Institute http://rei.racialequityinstitute.org/

I wonder if anyone from the CWG is planning to attend the Facing race conference? I've never been but it sounds amazing. https://facingrace.raceforward.org/
I would also recommend Creating Change which I attended last January. https://www.thetaskforce.org/creatingchange.html

I do not remember what anti-oppression means, and I suspect that the people most in need of this training would be least likely to know what it is. Is there something we can call it that does not assume prior familiarity with the term? Or is some introductory course required before taking this training?

This seems like an excellent idea to me!

Seconding Darren Oh's request for clarification on scope & definition, and how it pertains to people working within the Drupal community.
