Keynote Announcement: Peter Hinssen at Enterprise AI Drupal Summit Europe 2026

26 May 2026 at 14:35 UTC

We are pleased to announce that Peter Hinssen will be the keynote speaker at the Enterprise Drupal Summit Europe 2026 in Rotterdam on 28 September 2026.

Peter Hinssen

Setting the stage

Peter Hinssen will open the summit with a session on how organizations deal with continuous disruption and long-term digital change — a topic he has spent decades researching, writing about, and bringing to stages around the world.

With over 1,500 keynote presentations delivered to Fortune 1000 companies and leading organisations globally, Peter brings a rare combination of strategic depth, clarity, and a dry sense of humour that turns strategy into clarity.

He is also the bestselling author of six business books, most recently The Uncertainty Principle (2025), a guide for leaders navigating what he calls the "Never Normal" — a world where disruption is not an exception but the baseline.

Why this matters for your enterprise

The summit focuses on AI in enterprise environments, where change is structural rather than incremental. Peter's keynote sets the strategic context for the day's discussions across three key themes:

  • AI in enterprise content systems
  • Composable digital platforms
  • Digital transformation in complex organizations

Because in enterprise environments, the question is no longer whether to adopt AI, but how to do it strategically.

Join us in Rotterdam

Enterprise Drupal Summit Europe 2026 brings together practitioners and decision-makers working on AI (and Drupal) at scale.

The program focuses on real implementations, architecture decisions, and operational lessons from enterprise and public sector environments.

A room full of decision-makers, and there's a seat with your name on it.

The skills that matter for leaders, builders and doers in the age of AI

7 May 2026 at 10:04 UTC

Article by: Aidan Foster, Foster Interactive

Creative, Strategic, and Articulate skills overlap at "Human × AI Multiplier" — the human skills that make AI valuable.

The three human skills that turn AI into a multiplier.

Creativity, strategic thinking, and articulation are the three skills that decide whether AI makes you better or just faster.

  • Strategic thinking comes from experience. There's no shortcut.
  • Creativity can be learned, but it's more like going to the gym than reading a book. You build it through reps.
  • Articulation lets you craft quality prompts and specs for AI, and it's the most trainable of the three. But it only matters when there's something worth articulating. The value lives in the other two.
What Everyone Is Getting Wrong

The AI discourse has one dominant message: automate faster, cut the grunt work, reduce headcount, ship more.

Most leaders are responding by getting better at execution. Better prompts. Faster workflows. More output per person.

Execution still matters. It's just not where the constraint is anymore. The leaders who pull ahead in the next three years won't be the ones who automated the most; they'll be the ones who understood where the real constraint moved.

The Bottleneck Moved

Think back to five years ago. A new landing page meant a brief, a copywriter, a designer, a developer, a round of revisions, and three weeks of calendar time. A campaign asset required coordinating four people across two time zones for something that might run for six days before you killed it.

That friction was real. Teams were sized around it. Agencies were built on it. Budgets accounted for it. That friction is gone.

Drupal AI Learners Club Is Here. And You're Invited.

1 May 2026 at 08:41 UTC

Article by: María Fernanda Silva

If you’ve spent any time around Drupal lately, you’ve probably noticed that AI is everywhere — in the keynotes, in the hallway conversations, in the issue queues. You may also have noticed that everyone else seems to know what they're doing, while you're still trying to figure out where to start.

You are not. Not even close.

Those questions — what is actually going on, and where do I even start? — are exactly what the Drupal AI Learners Club was built for.

Where it started

Angie Byron (webchick) has been part of the Drupal community since 2005: core committer, one of the driving forces behind Drupal 8, and one of those people everyone seems to know. She did not come to DrupalCon Chicago 2026 planning to start anything. She came to celebrate Drupal's 25th anniversary and catch up with old friends. But somewhere between the hallway conversations and the late-night tables, she started picking up on something: a lot of people were anxious about AI, unsure what it meant for their work, their identity as Drupal developers, their community — and quietly terrified to admit they did not have it figured out.

"I don't know what is going on, and neither do you," she would later describe as the feeling she wanted to create space for. "It's fine. Nobody knows. It's changing too fast.

That feeling stuck with her. And the Drupal AI Learners Club was born. Not as a space to hype AI, and not as a space to condemn it, but as a place to cut through the noise and talk honestly about what these tools actually do, how people are using them, and where they fall short.

From Leuven to Athens: Celebrating One Year Since the Drupal AI Initiative Took Shape

23 Apr 2026 at 14:13 UTC

One year ago, at Drupal Developer Days in Leuven, something special happened.

The Drupal AI Initiative was not officially launched yet. That would happen later, in June. But Leuven was where the spark happened. It was where the first real momentum came together. Where conversations turned into commitment. Where a shared belief became a shared plan.

Starting in Leuven

Five companies stepped up to kickstart the initiative: Dropsolid, Acquia, 1xINTERNET, FreelyGive, and Salsa Digital. Together, they helped turn an ambitious idea into the beginning of a movement.

Now, one year later, as we gather again at Drupal Developer Days in Athens, we celebrate one year since that moment of conception.

Leuven was where the initiative was kickstarted. June was when it officially went live. Athens is where we celebrate how far it has come.

A year of momentum, collaboration, and delivery

The Drupal AI Initiative was created with a bold ambition: to help Drupal become the leading open source CMS for AI-powered digital experiences.

But from the beginning, this was never just about adding AI features.

It was about building AI into Drupal in a way that reflects the values of the Drupal community: open, flexible, responsible, transparent, and collaborative. It was about giving organizations the tools to innovate with AI while keeping control over governance, content, security, editorial workflows, and long-term digital strategy.

Over the past year, the initiative has grown from a spark in Leuven into one of the most ambitious collaborative efforts in Drupal’s history.

Drupal Is All In on AI. Now Comes the Hard Part

20 Apr 2026 at 13:28 UTC

Original article posted by Christoph Breidert on 1xINTERNET website

Over a decade ago, I co-founded 1xINTERNET on the conviction that Drupal was the best platform for ambitious web applications. That bet paid off. But recently, as AI began disrupting our industry, I found myself facing an unfamiliar feeling: uncertainty. For the first time in my career, the path forward wasn't entirely clear.

If you are a decision-maker navigating this shift, you likely feel the same way. We are all trying to figure out how to leverage AI's huge potential without compromising enterprise security, compliance, or content quality.

The good news is that while the broader AI landscape remains turbulent, the direction for content management systems is becoming clear.

When the Drupal AI Initiative was founded in June 2025 by 1xINTERNET, Acquia, DropSolid, FreelyGive, and Salsa Digital, our mission was to chart that exact path. Today, alongside Niels Aers, my role is to manage the AI product direction so that organizations can confidently bring AI into production.

Where AI Moves from Experiment to Operation

The conversation around AI is changing.

Not long ago, most discussions focused on what AI could do. That phase is largely behind us. Organisations are now dealing with a more difficult and more important question: how do you operate AI systems in a way that holds up over time, under real conditions, and with real consequences?

The Drupal AI Summit NYC is designed to address that shift directly. This is not a standalone Drupal event. It is co-located with apidays New York and Generation AI, placing Drupal into a broader ecosystem of technology leaders, platform owners, and organisations actively working through the realities of AI adoption at scale.

This is a different kind of conversation

This Summit is not structured as a traditional developer track, and it is not focused on early-stage experimentation. The intent is to create space for people who are already responsible for delivery and are dealing with the complexity that comes with it.

The audience includes CTOs, digital leaders, and platform owners who are navigating challenges such as governance, compliance, data ownership, and long-term operational stability. These are not theoretical concerns. They emerge quickly once AI is integrated into production systems and begin to affect real users, real data, and real outcomes.

Six months following DrupalCon Vienna: the Drupal AI Initiative arrives in Chicago, showing significant progress and major releases

26 Mar 2026 at 20:16 UTC

At DrupalCon Vienna, Dries Buytaert opened his keynote with a question the room was already asking: what happens to Drupal in a world full of AI?

He answered with a live demonstration showcasing three things the initiative had built and shipped:

  • Pace of delivery: pages that used to take hours now get built in minutes.
  • Brand and voice control: a new Context Control Center feature lets teams set their brand voice once, and every AI agent applies it.
  • Governance at scale: autonomous agents scan the site, find internal references, and propose updates.

The keynote highlighted an important aspect: humans stay in the loop and approve every change before anything goes live.

The Drupal AI Initiative arrives in Chicago with more to show

Since Vienna, 10 new organisations have joined as partners, bringing the total to 31. The initiative has now secured the equivalent of $1.5 million in combined support, comprising both direct funding and a committed contribution of 50 staff dedicated to advancing the work.

What is most exciting to me is not just what we’ve built, but how we’ve built it. With a growing group of contributors and more than $1.5 million in funding, this is now a coordinated effort to bring AI into Drupal in a way that is open, trusted, and built to last.

Dries Buytaert

AI Partners

A portion of funds is being invested in delivery management. The initiative conducted a formal Request for Proposal (RFP) process to appoint delivery partners responsible for coordinating work across both the innovation and product development streams. QED42 and 1xINTERNET were selected to lead the innovation and product development work streams respectively.

Beyond the "AI Average": How Drupal is the Future of ‘Quality at Scale’

26 Mar 2026 at 20:00 UTC

In his ‘#DriesNote’ presentation at DrupalCon Chicago 2026, Dries addressed the elephant in the room: AI is currently flooding the web with "average" content: fast to produce, but hard to distinguish. While there are tools that can generate beautiful prototypes in 15 minutes with no technical skill, those prototypes lack the structured data, governance, and durability required by serious organizations.

Drupal is bridging the gap between “AI speed” and enterprise assurance through two key innovations: the Context Control Centre (CCC) and Drupal Canvas AI, a new approach to building digital experiences.

The Context Control Centre (CCC): Institutional ‘Knowledge as a Service’

The most significant hurdle for AI today is a lack of context. Without it, AI simply gives you the "average response." The Context Control Centre changes this by allowing organizations to store their unique "DNA" directly within Drupal.

The CCC organizes institutional knowledge into actionable data:

  • Brand Guidelines: Specific rules for tone, voice, and formatting.

  • Personas: Detailed profiles of target audiences (e.g., Controllers vs. IT Ops).

  • Dynamic Context: A groundbreaking feature where the CCC connects to live data sources like Google Analytics 4 (GA4).

Built into your Drupal CMS, AI tools don't just guess; they work within your specific business reality to ensure their output is always on brand, within guidelines, and relevant to the contextual nuances of the task at hand.

Drupal Canvas AI: Where Speed Meets Substance

The second half of the equation is Drupal Canvas AI, the next-generation page builder.

Announcing Drupal AI 1.3.0: Largest feature update ever!

12 Mar 2026 at 15:05 UTC

Authors: Will Huggins, Jeremy Chinquist

Drupal AI 1.3.0 is now available, delivering the largest feature update since the module's initial release. This version focuses on three areas that organisations told us matter most:

  • Keeping AI safe and accountable
  • Making AI useful for content teams
  • Giving technical teams the visibility they need to operate AI in production with confidence

And because Drupal AI is open source, you stay in control of your models, your data, and your infrastructure.

AI Guardrails: stay in control of every AI interaction

Trust is the foundation of responsible AI adoption. Drupal AI 1.3.0 introduces AI Guardrails, configurable checks that run before or after any AI request.

Teams can define rules to control how AI interacts with their content and data. For example, they can block sensitive data from leaving their organisation, filter harmful responses, or enforce compliance policies. All of this can be configured without writing code.

Guardrails work across all AI operations in Drupal. This gives security and compliance teams a single place to oversee how AI is used across the site.

In practice, this means AI governance becomes part of the platform itself, rather than something teams must manage separately.

One-click AI for editors, right where they work

AI should meet editors in their workflow, not force them into a separate tool.

Upcoming Webinar: A Real-World Example of Responsible AI: World Cancer Day

10 Mar 2026 at 10:01 UTC

unique

Every year, the global campaign organised by the Union for International Cancer Control invites people affected by cancer to share their personal experiences as part of World Cancer Day. These stories provide an important human perspective on the realities of cancer. They help build solidarity, encourage early diagnosis, and ensure the voices of patients, survivors, families and carers are heard around the world.

However, when a global campaign encourages participation at scale, the practical challenges quickly become clear. Hundreds of deeply personal stories can arrive from many different countries in a short period of time. Each submission needs to be reviewed carefully, handled with sensitivity, and prepared for publication. For a small team responsible for managing the campaign, this can create significant pressure during the peak period around World Cancer Day.

To address this challenge, the World Cancer Day team partnered with 1xINTERNET to explore how artificial intelligence could support their existing editorial workflow within Drupal.

Balancing efficiency and human oversight in AI assisted moderation

Rather than attempting to automate the process entirely, the approach focused on supporting human decision making. AI was introduced to assist moderators by helping them review incoming submissions more efficiently. This allowed the team to process stories more quickly while ensuring that personal experiences remained at the centre of the review process.

Drupal AI Summit NYC: Building AI that lasts

9 Mar 2026 at 20:11 UTC

Written by guest blogger María Fernanda Silva

Something is shifting in how organizations think about AI. The early excitement around what it could do is giving way to a harder, more important question: how do you build AI that actually holds up — at scale, under pressure, and over time?

On 14 May 2026, New York City becomes the place where that question gets answered. The Drupal AI Summit brings together enterprise leaders, digital decision-makers, and senior practitioners from across the US and Europe — not to explore AI in theory, but to share what responsible, durable AI looks like in practice.

At the Summit in Paris

The decisions that define what AI becomes

Thirteen focused sessions. Real case studies. The Summit is built around the strategic and organizational questions that determine whether AI delivers real value or stays stuck in pilot mode: governance, investment, long-term architecture, and what it actually takes to scale. If you are responsible for those decisions, this is where you belong.

Open source and the architecture of trust

Most AI implementations fail quietly — locked into black boxes, disconnected from the workflows where real work happens, impossible to adjust without starting over.

There is a different path. When AI is embedded directly into content, data, and workflow systems (where enterprise work actually happens), teams maintain transparency, organisations retain control, and the architecture evolves alongside the business without the cost of replatforming. This is not a niche concern. It speaks to every enterprise leader navigating AI in environments where trust, regulation, and scale are not optional considerations — they are the entire challenge.

SearXNG - Privacy-First Web Search for Drupal AI Assistants

19 Feb 2026 at 09:15 UTC

If you’ve been following the rapid rise of AI‑driven chatbots and ‘assistant‑as‑a‑service’ platforms, you know one of the biggest pain points is trustworthy, privacy‑preserving web search. AI assistants need access to current information to be useful, yet traditional search engines track every query, building detailed user profiles.

Enter SearXNG - an open‑source metasearch engine that aggregates results from dozens of public search back‑ends while never storing personal data. The new Drupal module lets any Drupal‑based AI assistant (ChatGPT, LLM‑powered bots, custom agents) invoke SearXNG directly from the Drupal site, bringing privacy‑first searching in‑process with your content.

SearXNG

What is SearXNG?

SearXNG aggregates results from up to 247 search services without tracking or profiling users. Unlike Google, Bing or other mainstream search engines, SearXNG removes private data from search requests and doesn't forward anything from third-party services.

Think of it as a privacy-preserving intermediary: your query goes to SearXNG, which then queries multiple search engines on your behalf and aggregates the results, all while keeping your identity completely anonymous.

The Drupal SearXNG Module

The Drupal SearXNG module brings this privacy-focused search capability directly into the Drupal ecosystem. It connects Drupal with your preferred SearXNG server (local or remote), includes a demonstration block, and provides an additional submodule that integrates SearXNG with Drupal AI by offering an AI Agent Tool.

This integration is particularly powerful when combined with Drupal's growing AI ecosystem, including the AI module framework, AI Agents and AI Assistants API.

Key Benefits

Privacy by design

The most compelling benefit is complete privacy protection. When your Drupal AI assistant uses SearXNG to search the web:
