Verification Help & Guidance
Hi everyone,
Hello @Githubcommunity,
Following the recent GitHub Blog update regarding individual plans, I wanted to open a discussion thread to gather community thoughts and hopefully get some insight from the GitHub team on the roadmap moving forward.
According to the announcement, GitHub has officially paused new sign-ups and upgrades for GitHub Copilot Pro, Pro+, and Student plans. The team noted this is a necessary step to protect service quality for existing users, as the heavy compute demand from long-running, parallelized "agentic. The team noted this is a necessary step to protect servi workflows" has begun straining infrastructure and significantly increasing token consumption.
While it’s completely understandable that GitHub needs to maintain service reliability and build a more sustainable solution for these intensive workflows, this pause leaves a lot of developers—especially students—in a tough spot. Many who have just been verified for the GitHub Student Developer Pack or are looking to upgrade from the basic free tier to a Pro plan for upcoming bootcamps and projects currently cannot do so.
I’d love to start a conversation around a few questions:
For the GitHub team: Is there a rough timeline or milestone you are aiming for before reopening sign-ups for the Pro and Student tiers?
For other developers and students: How are you managing your workflows or adjusting your learning paths while waiting for the upgrades to resume?
Thank you to the team for working on a sustainable solution to support the future of agentic coding. Looking forward to hearing everyone's thoughts!
