Last name field → If your legal last name is just one letter, add a small character (like a period or dash: R. or R-) so the form accepts it.

Admission letter → Ask your university to issue a letter that clearly states:

You are a currently enrolled student

Your full name and program details

On official letterhead, signed and dated

Extra proof → Upload your student ID card or transcript along with the admission letter.

Contact support → If the system still rejects it, open a GitHub Education support ticket and explain both issues (short last name + hybrid course).

I came across for this issue several times. First make sure you turned on 2 step verification, then write your full name and surname to billing and licensing section(same as student id) . After these steps I am sure you can access the GitHub Student Developer Pack.

Do not alter or fake your legal name to bypass the form. That can permanently flag or reject your application.

Correct resolution:

1. Enter your legal name exactly as shown on your official student ID (even if the last name is a single letter).

2. If the form blocks submission due to “last name too short”, do not use workarounds (no extra characters, dots, or substitutions).

3. Open a GitHub Education support ticket and explain:

   • Your legal last name is a single letter (as per ID)
   • The billing/name validation prevents accurate entry
   • You are currently enrolled (hybrid programs are eligible)

4. Attach official proof:

   • Student ID
   • Enrollment/admission letter
   • Any document showing your legal name and active status

GitHub Education support can manually override validation constraints. Community hacks cannot.
