I realize that we've been implementing features with little sense of direction on where this project is going.
It's clear that Feather will not replace the vanilla server for normal survival gameplay. There are too many features to implement, and each year Mojang adds more gameplay at a pace we cannot keep up with. While usage on survival servers is out of Feather's reach, servers requiring more specialized, small-scoped functionality will benefit from Feather's lightweightness. My goal in the mid term, therefore, is to implement the features needed for adoption by minigame-focused users.
In the short term—meaning the next few months—I hope to make Feather usable as a hub server. This means as a bare minimum, we need the following:
Once the above points are completed, we can expand our horizons to cover features needed for typical minigames: combat, a richer plugin API, support for custom world formats, and the ability to disable unneeded features.
With these goals in mind, I hope that, within a year or so, we can get to a point where Feather sees use on real servers.
