Port of upstream b294371 ("Avoid too many character access attempts in AntPathMatcher", spring-projectsgh-36799) onto the 5.3.39 source shape. Every line of code that ships is upstream's: the private MaxAttemptsCharSequence, its Counter, and the changed call site all apply without conflict. ONE ANNOTATION IS DROPPED, and it is the only deviation. Upstream marks isEmpty() @OverRide, which is correct from Java 15 where CharSequence gained a default isEmpty(). This baseline compiles at Java 8, where CharSequence has no such method (verified with javap on JDK 8 and JDK 17), so the annotation does not compile here. The METHOD is kept rather than deleted: on a Java 15+ runtime it then still dispatches here instead of to CharSequence's default, which is the behaviour upstream wrote. Neither implementation counts a character access, so the guard's semantics are identical either way. Nothing else in the commit needs adapting -- the underscore literal is Java 7 and every other member existed in Java 8. Upstream-Commit: b294371
